Dedicated to the Historical Preservation of Early Wireless & Phonograph

In the fall of 1974 a handful of dedicated collectors met to form the Southwest Vintage Radio and Phonograph Society. The expressed purpose of the organization was to preserve and restore the history and historical items of early wireless, radios, phonographs, telegraphs, tubes and related items. From that small group of individuals with a common bond in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area, the society blossomed and has grown to almost 500 members worldwide. To reflect the worldwide membership base, the word "Southwest" was dropped from the official organization in 1978. The Society was formed as a non-profit organization under these goals.

The Vintage Radio and Phonograph Society or VRPS, continues to strive toward those initial goals of preservation and restoration through the exchange of ideas at monthly meetings. Additionally, the organization hosts two annual swap meets and two annual auctions where members have the opportunity to dispose of surplus equipment and acquire others pieces that will enhance their personal collection. One of the auctions is in conjunction with the annual convention. The convention is an exciting time of old equipment contests, awards, a banquet, flea markets, and auctions (both live and silent) as well as an opportunity to renew old acquaintances.

We do not have a formal meeting in December, but rather use the time of year as a opportunity to celebrate the success of the year just past and bring in the family of members for a Christmas Party. This has become a favorite for many over the last 10 + years.

Members receive quarterly copies of the Soundwaves, the official oracle of the VRPS. This includes free ads, member services, and articles of interest to the collector. Members are always encouraged to submit articles for publication.

Through your membership in the VRPS, you can increase your knowledge of the hobby and meet other members with similar interests, while increasing and improving your own collection.

Watch the calendar of events for the location of our monthly meetings. They typically start with a tailgate swap meet about 1pm and the meeting beginning about 2pm. Come join us!!
